Quick Tips Before You Get Started

Important prep tips before starting the recipe:

  • Peel the garlic and chop the onion ahead to save time during cooking.
  • If you prefer a smoother sauce, have your blender or immersion blender ready.

Common Mistakes When Making This Recipe

  • Not blending the spices well: Take the time to thoroughly combine your spice mix so that the flavor is evenly distributed.
  • Skipping to the blending step too early: Simmer the sauce first, then blend. You want those flavors to infuse before smoothing out the seafood boil sauce.

Ingredient Tips

Here’s a quick overview of the key ingredients for this recipe. For the full list of ingredients and exact measurements, be sure to check the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

  • Butter: Use salted or unsalted. Vegan alternatives like Earth Balance will work but the flavor will be different.
  • Garlic bulbs: Fresh is key here. Two full bulbs create that signature flavor.
  • Onion: Yellow or sweet onions work best. Chop finely or pulse slightly in a food processor.
  • Vegetable stock: Adds depth. Chicken broth is a fine swap.
  • Worcestershire sauce: Brings umami. For a vegetarian version, use soy sauce.
  • Brown sugar: Adds subtle sweetness to balance the spices.
  • Spices: Garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, oregano, lemon pepper, chili powder, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay, ground ginger, cayenne, salt, and pepper. All pantry staples that layer up rich flavor.
Can I make Blove’s Sauce ahead of time?

Variations, Substitutions, and Recipe Tips

Dietary Modifications: Use vegan butter and gluten-free Worcestershire or tamari. Just note that the flavor will be altered somewhat.

Flavor Enhancements: Add a squeeze of lemon for brightness or a splash of beer, like some Cajun recipes do.

Add-In Options: Crushed red pepper for more heat, a teaspoon of smoked paprika.

Simple Substitutions: Use chicken broth instead of vegetable broth. Swap fresh garlic with pre-minced if in a rush.

Tips for Recipe Success: Make your Blove’s seafood boil recipe a day ahead to deepen the flavor and make prep easier on a busy day.

I recommend making the sauce ahead of time because the taste gets even better after it sits for several hours.
Adjust the sauce spice level according to what you’re taste and what you are serving it with.
