It’s easy to make before guests arrive, and it goes great with about any menu as a snack food. Perfect for game day, bbq, holiday parties, or cocktail parties.
🍽 Equipment
The best part about this recipe is you only need a saucepan, measuring tools, a wooden spoon, and your slow cooker. It’s an easy, mess-free recipe.
🥘 Ingredients
This recipe is not your standard original Chex party mix, it has a unique twist of ingredients that create an addictive snack.
- 1 cup Bugels
- 1 cup rye crisps
- 1 cup cheese puffs
- 1 cup Cheez-Its
- 1 cup pretzels
- 1 cup corn chips
- 1 cup Bugels
- 2 cups Rice Chex
- 2 cups Corn Chex
- 1 cup Cheerios
🧂 Seasoning
- 1 cups butter (salted or unsalted, your choice)
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon celery salt
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1 teaspoon yellow curry powder
🔪 Instructions
- Combine cereals, nuts, Cheez-Its, and pretzels into a … quart slow cooker. Toss to mix well.
- Heat butter in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Add Worcestershire sauce to the melted butter, celery salt, seasoned salt, liquid smoke, and curry powder. Stir well and simmer for 10 minutes to ensure all the seasonings have dissolved into the butter.
- Whisk butter mixture in the pan as your pour it over your cereal mixture. It’s best to pour 1/3 of the seasoning at a time, stirring to coat party mix in between.
⏲️ Baking time
The key to a good batch of Chex mix is to bake it low and slow. That is why a crockpot is perfect.
Set your crockpot to low, then place a piece of paper towel on top of the cereal before putting the lid on. If you don’t do this, you will get too much condensation built up on the lid and make your slow cooker version soggy.
Bake for 3 hours. Be sure to stir the mixture every 30 minutes during the first two hours, then every 15 minutes during the last hour of cooking time. Your total time baking might vary according to your brand of crockpot.
Remove from slow cooker and allow to cool to room temperature before serving.
💭 Top tip
- Be sure and use real butter, not margarine. It does make a big difference in the flavor.
- Keep any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
- Stir gently with wooden spoons, so you do not break the cereal pieces
- Keep a paper towel laid on top of your crockpot Chex mix while baking to help reduce extra moisture on the lid.

Hello Gina, I was wondering if I should use salted or unsalted butter in the chex mix recipe. Thank you for sharing a great recipe. Have a safe and blessed Christmas and an awesome and blessed New Year!!!
Great question! I used salted but if you want to keep sodium a little lower then I would use unsalted. There are enough other spices in there that you will still have a lot of flavors in each bite.
