The very first time I tasted cream cheese with pepper jelly dip was at a church Christmas open house. Someone set a pretty little plate on the counter with a block of cream cheese, that shiny red jelly on top, and a ring of crackers around it. Before the ham was carved or the pies were sliced, that little appetizer was already scraped clean.
Recipes like this let you welcome people in with something special and homemade, without chaining you to the stove. In this version, we make a quick, small batch of hot pepper jelly, then keep it in the refrigerator so you can pull together a beautiful pepper jelly cream cheese dip any time company walks in the door, whether it is a Sunday small group, a football game, or neighbors dropping by.

Ingredient Notes
Here’s a quick overview of the key ingredients for this recipe. For the full list of ingredients and exact measurements, be sure to check the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Red jalapeño chiles: Look for firm, glossy red jalapeños without soft spots and wear gloves while trimming away stems and seeds.
- Apple: Look for a crisp, tart Granny Smith apple or other tart, firm apple.
- Sugar: Use regular granulated white sugar and measure it out before you start cooking so you can add it to the pan as soon as the peppers and apple are ready.
- Apple cider: Grab a good-quality apple cider, give the container a shake, and keep it chilled until you are ready to stir it into the saucepan.
- Apple jelly: Pick a jar of plain apple jelly from the store.
- Cider vinegar: Use apple cider vinegar from a fresh bottle, if possible, and keep it by the stove so you can stir it in right after the jelly finishes cooking.
- Cream cheese: Choose full-fat cream cheese in blocks rather than tubs and let it soften at room temperature. Here are more tips and tricks on how to soften cream cheese to get that smooth, spreadable texture every time.
How To Make Cream Cheese Pepper Jelly Dip
Prepare Peppers and Apple
Stem and seed the red jalapeños, and peel, core, and grate the Granny Smith apple on the large holes of a box grater. Add the peppers and shredded apple to a food processor and pulse until finely chopped but not pureed, scraping the sides as needed.

Cook Pepper Mixture
Transfer the pepper and apple mixture to a saucepan. Add the sugar, apple cider, and salt. Set the pan over medium heat, bring to a simmer, and cook, stirring frequently, until the liquid evaporates and the mixture thickens and looks glossy.

Finish and Assemble
Stir in the apple jelly until it melts into the peppers and the mixture is smooth. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring often, until the jelly reduces to about 1 pint.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in cider vinegar. Divide the hot jelly evenly between two 8-ounce jars, secure the lids, and let them cool at room temperature.
When you are ready to serve, let blocks of cream cheese soften at room temperature until easily spreadable, then spoon some of the cooled hot pepper jelly over the top so it gently runs down the sides.

You can serve it either way: most often, I like room temperature jelly so it’s soft and spreadable, but you can gently warm the jelly before spooning it over for a cozier version.
Use leftover jelly as a glaze for baked chicken or pork, stir a spoonful into sautéed green beans and mushrooms, spread it on ham or turkey salad sandwiches, or spoon it over goat cheese or brie for another easy pepper jelly cream cheese appetizer later in the week.
Variations, Substitutions, and Recipe Tips
Dietary Modifications: For anyone watching dairy, spoon the jelly over dairy-free cream cheese or plant-based spread so they can still enjoy the sweet and spicy flavor.
Flavor Enhancements: For extra heat, stir about 1/2 tablespoon of reserved jalapeño seeds into the pepper mixture as it cooks. You can also add a pinch of smoked paprika or crushed red pepper for a deeper flavor, or stir in a touch more cider vinegar if you want a brighter, more tangy jelly.
Add-In Options: For holidays, scatter toasted pecans or walnuts and a few sprigs of rosemary or thyme around the pepper jelly cream cheese dip on the serving tray.
Simple Substitutions: If you cannot find red jalapeños, use green jalapeños or a mix of mild bell peppers with one or two hotter peppers. Any tart, crisp apple can stand in for Granny Smith.
Tips for Recipe Success: Wear gloves when handling jalapeños. Take your time when simmering the jelly, since rushing that step can leave you with a runny topping. Be sure your cream cheese is fully softened in a shallow dish so guests can easily scoop.
