What to use to scoop out the dip

There are a variety of fun ways to scoop up this sweet festive dip.

    • ginger snap cookies
    • vanilla wafers
    • graham crackers
    • animal crackers
    • pretzels
    • fresh fruit
    • Pecans

Can I make this ahead of time?

This recipe is best if served immediately, but it can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. When storing, top the dip with plastic wrap to keep it from drying out, or keep it in an airtight container.

A fun way to serve the dip

Make a cookie Christmas Charcuterie board. You can use this dip as the centerpiece, then add vanilla wafers, teddy grams, animal crackers, and vanilla wafers. You could also add these Cake Mix Christmas Cookies, Swiss Christmas Cookies, Pistachio Cookies, and Molasses Cookies.

Should I serve it cold or at room temperature?

If you want a firmer dip, place it in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving.

Add a twist to your dip

    • For a non-holiday dip, you can use: Little Debbies birthday cake snack cakes, zebra cakes, or even chocolate snack cakes
    • For a lighter version of this dip, substitute the cream cheese for one tub of cool whip, thawed
    • To ramp up the vanilla cake flavor, add in 1 cup of cake mix.
    • For a fun flavor twist, add in 1 tablespoon of almond extract.
    • Use green food coloring gel if you want a more festive color.
    • Use any holiday sprinkles you like
    • You could even add some chocolate chips to this dip for a little something extra.
    • To make this into more of a dessert, serve it with angel food cake or pound cake.
    • Use this dip as a topping for your favorite Christmas cookies.

    Questions Often Asked

Are Zebra Cakes and Christmas tree cakes the same thing?

No, they are not the same. Zebra cakes have stripes of chocolate running through them. Christmas tree cakes are shaped and decorated to look like Christmas trees.

Can you freeze Christmas tree cakes?

Yes! The Christmas tree cakes should be frozen for at least two hours to reach full firmness. After that, they can stay in the freezer overnight or uncovered for two to three hours. Cakes should be individually wrapped in plastic to prevent freezer burn if you plan to freeze them for more extended periods.
