Ingredients Needed

Now, let’s get everything ready for our slow-cooker turkey breast recipe. Just a few ingredients and you’ll be cooking the most tender turkey breast for your weeknight meal!

Ingredients for a turkey dish arranged on a white surface: a package of turkey breast tenderloins, a can of cream of chicken soup, a bowl of sour cream, and a box of stuffing mix for chicken.
  • Turkey breast: If possible, choose fresh turkey to achieve a more tender and juicy result. You’ll know it’s fresh when the meat feels firm and looks slightly pink.
  • Cream of chicken: While cooking turkey breast in the crockpot, the soup will add moisture to the meat and infuse it with the drippings to make a delicious gravy. Some of these brands can be high in sodium, so look for a low-sodium version for a healthier choice.
  • Stuffing mix: This ingredient is a great time saver as it already includes herbs, spices, and aromatics for flavor. If you want to achieve a traditional gravy taste, choose a mix with thyme, rosemary, and sage.
  • Sour cream: Its tanginess helps balance the savory flavors of the other ingredients. Choose full-fat sour cream if you want a richer sauce or go with reduced-fat if you want to cut down the calories.
  • Vegetables (optional): Your crockpot turkey becomes even more nutritious when you add some vegetables. Choose one or two of these vegetables: green beans, peas, carrots, onions, celery, chestnuts, corn, and mushrooms. You can buy them fresh or frozen.

Gina’s Tips For Recipe Success

  • If you’re using frozen turkey, thaw it first in the fridge for 1-2 days to ensure that the meat cooks evenly.
  • I uded boneless skinless turkey meat howver you could choose bone-in turkey breast with skin on. This will add extra rich flavor to your dinner.
  • Keep your turkey breasts the same size so the meat cooks evenly.
  • You can use Greek yogurt over sour cream for a healthier alternative.
  • Check the turkey after five hours with a meat thermometer to ensure that it doesn’t overcook. You’ll know the meat is done when the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). This will keep it moist and tender without drying out.

Storing Leftovers

You can enjoy the slow-cooked turkey for a longer time if you store the leftovers properly. But before you do that, you should cool the meat completely and slice or shred it in portions for easy reheating.

  • Refrigerator: Store the turkey with the cooking juices and stuffing in an airtight container. It should remain fresh for up to 3-4 days.
  • Freezer: Put the turkey and stuffing in a freezer-safe bag or container and freeze for up to 3-4 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

When it’s time to reheat, place it in a shallow dish and cover with a lid. Heat in the oven or microwave. Add a bit of chicken broth to moisten the meat and stuffing so it does not dry out.
