Ingredients For Masters Chicken Salad
Here’s a quick overview of the key ingredients for this recipe. For the full list of ingredients and exact measurements, be sure to check the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

- Chicken: Here is one key to making this Masters chicken salad taste just like it does on the course: You must use very tender chicken. I also believe it’s best to only use white meat, as theirs does not appear to have any dark meat mixed in. I have three ways to make really tender chicken for this chicken salad. If you are in a pinch for time, grab a rotisserie chicken at your local grocery’s deli department.
- Mayonnaise: I compared the ingredients on the chicken salad bag, and the closest match to mayonnaise is Duke’s. Of course, Duke’s is a Southern favorite when making chicken salad.
- Celery: Chop the celery super fine. I cut one stalk into three even-sized pieces lengthwise, then chopped them into tiny pieces.
- Pepper: You can not see the pepper in the actual chicken salad, so use fine ground pepper. To be authentic, it’s in there because it’s listed on the green bag the sandwich is served in.
- Bread: When Augusta National first introduced its chicken salad, it was served on a sweet butter brioche bun. However, they have changed the bread to a more traditional sliced bread, like the other sandwiches in the concession stands. To make a true copycat chicken salad sandwich, you will need to make your sandwiches on honey wheat.

How To Make Masters Chicken Salad Sandwich
Prep and Combine Ingredients
Shred cooked chicken. I like to begin by cutting it with a knife and then use my hands to pull and crumble it apart. This is a key to making it authentic. The Master’s chicken salad does not have large pieces of meat but has a smooth texture.
Chop the celery very fine. You can see pieces of celery in the Masters chicken salad, however, they are tiny and blend in. Place all the ingredients into a large mixing bowl.

Mix Ingredients
Using a large spoon, blend the ingredients together. Stir vigorously to break apart any pieces of chicken until the mixture is creamy and smooth. This is the way it is made for the Masters concession stand food.

Assemble Chicken Salad Sandwich
To assemble the sandwich, lay two pieces of honey wheat sliced sandwich bread on a cutting board. Scoop about 1/3 cup of chicken salad onto the bread.
Using a spatula or knife, spread the chicken salad evenly all the way up to the edges of the bread. Place the top piece of bread on. Cut the sandwich in half to form two triangles.

Authentic Serving Tip
Serving Tip: The Augusta National serves all its sandwiches in green compostable sandwich bags, just in case one gets away from a patron. They are not as noticeable on camera if one blows away, and they are better for the environment. To make your chicken salad sandwich authentic, order a box of these green compostable sandwich bags.

This is my grandson holding his sandwich bag with his foot near the 16th green while eating lunch. As you can see, the bag blends in well. Augusta National is all about the small details for the TV cameras and patrons.

Can’t Wait Too Try Them
Ginger, you are welcome. All my Masters recipes are as authentic as the items at the concession stands as I can make them. Years prior I have brought home the wrappers and directed the ingredients.
We like chopped apple, celery and onion in ours. No Mayo, but do use Miracle whip. Try it.
