Oven baked wings with dry rub make a flavorful appetizer or snack. The key to these great wings is a mixture of seasonings and sweet honey powder for a sweet, and savory dry rub.

Wings are the perfect party food at our house. The grandkids and adults all love them, making them a great choice for any gathering, from a game day party to a casual family birthday party. With 15 grandkids, we have a lot of birthday party celebrations, and the drummets are always the kid’s favorite.

When I need to make 5 or so pounds of wings, I like to bake them in the oven. I can prep before everyone arrives and then not worry about running in and outside to check the grill when everyone arrives. One of my favorite ways to season baked chicken wings is to start with a dry rub. I serve them with just the rub as a seasoning or maybe sauce them up with my homemade Peach BBQ Sauce or Bacon BBQ Sauce.

The basic seasoning spice blend that builds this dry rub is onion powder, garlic powder, smoky paprika coriander, and chili powder. These seasonings are a blend of a classic rub mixture.

What’s The Magic Ingredient In This Wing Rub?

The secret to this dry rub recipe is adding some sweet honey powder to the savory spices. Honey powder is the perfect solution since we are making a dry rub. I like to use Honeeva or Soulbee honey powder.

  • First, I like to rinse the wings under cold water and remove any pin feathers that might have been left on after processing.

number four
  • To ensure that the dry rub sticks to the chicken wings, pat the wings dry with paper towels before applying the rub. The moisture on the wings will help the rub adhere better.
  • Then, generously sprinkle and massage the dry rub onto the wings, ensuring they are evenly coated. This will help the flavors infuse the wings, resulting in a delicious taste.
number 5
  • It’s best to let the dry rub sit on the wings for at least 30 minutes before cooking. This allows the flavors to infuse the wings, resulting in a more flavorful dish.
  • If time permits, you can also let the wings marinate with the dry rub in the refrigerator for a few hours or even overnight for a more intense flavor.
number 6
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Then, place the dry-rubbed wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a wire rack in the sheet pan.
  • Bake the wings for 45-50 minutes, flipping them halfway through until they are golden and crispy. This method ensures that the wings are cooked through and have a delicious, crispy texture.
  • Safety Note: The FDA recommends cooking chicken to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) as measured with a food thermometer.
  • Once baked, you could brush on your favorite BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce, before serving
  • How To Serve: I like to serve wings with carrot and celery sticks alongside your favorite dipping sauce, such as blue cheese or ranch dressing.

Optional Ways To Use The Dry Rub

This dry rub could also be used on chicken thighs, air-fried chicken legs, baked, air-fried, or grilled chicken breasts, and turkey.
