Wonder Bread Chaffle Recipe That’s Soft and Easy to Make
If you’ve been missing soft sandwich bread on low carb, this wonder bread chaffle is the closest thing I’ve found that actually works. When I was testing it, I wanted something that didn’t taste eggy or feel like a heavy cheese waffle trying to pass as bread. This one turns out soft, light, and easy to use for BLTs, breakfast sandwiches, burgers, or even peanut butter and jelly.
I like this when I’m hosting because it’s such an easy way to care for someone eating low carb or gluten-free without having to make a separate complicated dish. It’s just a few basic ingredients and a couple of minutes in the waffle maker, and you’ve got something warm, filling, and homemade to enjoy. It’s a small thing, but it makes people feel seen and comfortable at your table. If you want to try a version that’s a little lighter and more airy, my fluffy low-carb cloud bread is worth trying, too.
Does A Chaffle Taste Eggy?
This is usually the first question, and I get it. A lot of chaffles lean heavily on eggs and end up tasting like it.
This one is different. It’s softer and much milder, so it works better as a simple sandwich-style bread. The mayonnaise helps keep it moist, and the almond flour gives it just enough structure without feeling heavy.
I’ve had readers tell me it doesn’t have that eggy or gritty texture they were expecting, which is exactly what I was hoping for when I worked this recipe out.
I love making these chaffles. There is so much you can do with these chaffles!!!! Excellent!!!! Making a few batches for the week today!!!

Main Ingredients
Here’s a quick overview of the key ingredients for this recipe. For the full list of ingredients and exact measurements, jump to the recipe card.

Helpful Ingredient Tips
- Egg: Use a large egg and whisk it well so the batter mixes smoothly and cooks evenly.
- Almond flour: Use fine-ground almond flour for the best texture. Coarser flour can make the chaffle feel a little heavy.
- Baking powder: Make sure it’s fresh so the chaffle turns out light instead of dense.
- Mayonnaise: This is what helps keep it soft and not dry. I usually grab Duke’s Mayonnaise, but any mayo you like will work here.
How To Make Wonder Bread Chaffle
This comes together quickly, so I like to have everything ready before I start.

- Preheat your Dash mini waffle maker. In a small bowl, whisk the egg until it’s well beaten. Add in the almond flour and baking powder and stir it together, then mix in the mayonnaise and water until the batter is smooth.
- Lightly spray the waffle maker with non-stick spray. Pour half of the batter into the waffle maker and close the lid.
- Cook for about 3 minutes or until the waffle maker’s timer turns off. Repeat with the remaining batter.
How do you keep chaffles from sticking?
Don’t skip the quick spray before adding the batter, even if it’s non-stick. It just makes getting them out a whole lot easier.
Tip: If chaffles have tasted eggy to you before, make sure you cook them fully and let them cool for a minute before eating. That little pause really helps the texture settle and keeps the flavor mild.

Variations
- Different mayonnaise: You can use any good-quality mayonnaise. The flavor will shift slightly depending on the brand, but the texture should stay soft.
- Crispier texture: If you prefer a firmer chaffle, leave it in the waffle maker an extra 30 to 45 seconds. Just know it will be less soft and more like a toasted bread.

Make Ahead Tips
I like to make a few of these ahead and keep them in the fridge for the week. That way, when things get busy, you can just pop one in the toaster and have something ready without starting from scratch. It also helps when you’re feeding people and don’t want to be standing at the waffle maker the whole time.
You can also freeze them. Just let them cool first, then stack them with a little parchment between each one and freeze. When you need one, warm it up in the toaster or oven until heated through.

Buy Now → Hospitality with Wonder Bread Chaffle
I like serving these for a casual brunch with a few friends because they make things feel relaxed without a lot of work ahead of time. You can set out a warm stack of chaffles near the waffle maker and invite guests to build their own breakfast sandwiches, keeping the setup relaxed with options like spicy egg salad, crispy bacon, sliced avocado, or a simple juicy pork sausage patty so everyone can mix and match what they like. You could also whip up some creamy dalgona coffee and add a bowl of fresh berries to round things out without overcomplicating the spread.
The atmosphere doesn’t need to feel perfectly styled, just welcoming, with natural light coming through the windows, and conversations lingering around the table. Sometimes the most meaningful hospitality comes from simply making room for people to slow down together, encourage one another, and “build one another up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

I loved the bread recipe, I top with avocado, egg with a little everything bagel seasoning. And didn’t feel guilty about eating it! Thanks
